Sarah Jackson is a California-based journalist covering education, child welfare, and workforce development. Sarah works closely with leading academics, foundations and think tanks to get research into the hands of policymakers. A former newspaper reporter, Sarah holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University and a joint master's degree in urban policy and planning and child development from Tufts University.

Sarah writes regularly on labor, early childhood education, and the impact of COVID 19 on education.

Earlier in her career Sarah worked as a researcher for AFSCME Council 31 in Chicago, and for the MacArthur Foundation.

Sarah reports widely on the early care and education workforce and K-12 schools. She has written for New America, Early Edge California, the Center for the Study of Child Care Employment at UC Berkeley, the David & Lucile Packard Foundation and many others. In 2018 Sarah produced the video series Transforming the Early Childhood Workforce for which she traveled around the country visiting classrooms and interviewing teachers, administrators, and higher education experts. In addition to her journalism, Sarah has authored Op-Eds, policy reports, white papers, issue briefs, and program evaluations. She recently completed a series on how to prepare teachers to better meet the needs of dual language learners. Sarah was named a 2020 Data Fellow with USC’s Center for Health Journalism for reporting on the well-being of children under 5.
